Sunkenland: Best Base Locations (2024)

Sunkenland, the Waterworld-themed post-apocalyptic survival game, currently available through Steam, has been slowly gaining wider recognition since its release. This new addition to the survival genre allows players to craft items, fight enemies, and build bases anywhere, all within its large ocean-covered world.

Currently, in early access, Sunkenland is ideal for gamers who love exploration, with multiple islands to discover and explore. But before getting too far into the game, it is recommended that players consider constructing a base. Creating a home base is a fundamental part of the game and deciding where to build it is equally important, with many different factors to consider.

10 Water Base

Sunkenland allows players to build their base anywhere, and the largest area in the game, by far, is the water itself. Building a base on the water allows players a huge amount of freedom in terms of build size and shape, but this does come with some drawbacks.

Collecting materials for a water base means a lot more legwork to and from islands and requires a lot of materials. This makes water bases a great project for later in the game, but for the initial base when starting, there are better options.

9 Castaway Island

As the default starting Island in Sunkenland, Castaway Island is a good choice for constructing an initial home base. Immediately into the game, players will have access to enough materials on the island and within the surrounding waters to construct a base that will take them through the game.

Castaway Island is also located centrally on the map, which gives it the advantage of being close to everywhere players will want to go. However, for more adventurous gamers, there are better locations to be found elsewhere.

8 Trader Island

Trader Island is another one of the more popular locations to build a base on in Sunkenland. When searching for this location, it should be noted that it is not actually an island.

Trader Island is a floating platform close to the original spawn location. There isn’t much in the way of space on this platform, but it does offer a level of safety from raids as well as easy access to the trading post. The platform also has a range of materials available, including wood from trees.

7 Radio Island

Radio Island doesn’t offer the same level of safety as a water base or Trader Island; however, there is an abundance of wood and other building materials to use at the location. The area will have to be cleared of its numerous enemies before constructing anything as well.

As with many of the locations in the game, Radio Island allows for a picturesque landscape to build upon, but with quite a few existing structures on the island that cannot be destroyed, players will need to plan out where they build before deciding on this location.

6 Faraway Island

Similar to Radio Island, Faraway Island will need to be cleared of enemies before using it as a base. Sunkenland has a big emphasis on combat, with the game supplying the means to craft multiple weapon types to use against its many dangers. Before taking on Faraway Island, crafting a gun is recommended to give players a higher chance of success.

Located in the northwest of the map, Faraway Island isn’t as central as other possible base locations but offers enough space to build upon with a good supply of loot from the existing enemy base.

5 The Ruins Island

Located on the far north of the map, close to Faraway Island, the Ruins Island offers a higher level of challenge for players looking for possible base locations. With plenty of heavily armed enemies to be found, taking on this island will take pre-planning and patience.

The island itself has plenty of building materials to use for a base and lots of loot to be scavenged from the enemy encampments. The existing structures limit the possible build space, but the area offers a lot of character as a backdrop for a player's Sunkenland home.

4 Submerged Downtown

Sunkenland has a diverse range of islands to use as possible base locations. Submerged Downtown is one of the largest land masses in the game and like many of the islands, will need to be cleared of enemies before being suitable as a base location.

Controlled by the mutant faction, clearing the island isn’t easy due to its size, but the rewards are worth the fight. With an abundance of loot to find, many interesting buildings and ruins to construct around, and a central location for easy access for exploration, Submerged Downtown is ideal for the more ambitious gamer.

3 The Green Isle

Controlled by The Salvation Clan, the Green Isle offers plenty of room for players to be creative with their base construction, with lots of flat sections to place foundations on. The central enemy base will need to be cleared before building, but with this comes plenty of loot.

The Green Isle is located quite close to the center of the map and is excellent as a base for exploration. On the Island itself can be found copper and wood for building and crafting, making this a good choice for a player base.

2 Small Rock Island

Not every island in Sunkenland requires being armed to the teeth before taking it on. Located South of Castaway Island, Small Rock Island offers little in the way of loot in the surrounding waters but has an abundance of materials on the land itself.

Controlled by the Mutant faction, Small Rock Island is an easier option for base building, with fewer enemies to take out. There is plenty of wood on the island, as well as iron. Choosing this location is ideal for those new to the game who looking for an alternative base.

1 Rubber Duck Island

Located in the southern area of the Sunkenland map, Rubber Duck Island is a solid choice for building a main base. In good proximity to various other points of interest, it offers an easier option than some of the tougher islands to the north.

Controlled by the Marauders, Rubber Duck Island has no existing structures and few enemies to clear. Players will find iron and copper, as well as cotton and plenty of wood for crafting and building, making this a great location for a base.
